Suarez revels in ‘dream comeback’

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez revelled in his “dream comeback” as he scored on his first Uruguay appearance in two years against Brazil.

Suarez had not played an international match since his bite on Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup, but he marked his return on the international scene with the equaliser to rescue Uruguay a 2-2 draw with Brazil in Friday’s qualifier for the 2018 Russian showpiece.

“It was the dream comeback,” he said after the game.

“I always try to do my best for the team and luckily my goal earned the draw.

“We were surprised by the first goal they scored against us.

“They caught us out within a minute and it forced us to change everything we planned from the beginning, but as always this team showed defiance and character to turn it around.

“It was moving in every way, one for the suffering I’d endured and second for the support I’ve felt at home with my wife and my two children.”
