Report: Valencia to sell Gomes

Valencia’s absence from Europe next season will reportedly force the club to sell players to balance the budget and Andre Gomes is linked to Manchester United.

Gomes, a Jorge Mendes client, is said by Super Deporte to be the player with the most interest in the market and as Los Che’s budget will go from €120m to less than €100m, his departure could bridge the gap.

Mendes, a friend of owner Peter Lim, is well-connected at Old Trafford as the representative of David De Gea, Lucas Nani, Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have all passed through the club in recent years.

Gomes’ next club is said to be Mendes’ main objective for the summer, along with determining the future of James Rodriguez at Real Madrid.

Valencia paid €15m for Gomes and while he has a clause of close to €100m, he won’t be sold for anything like that amount.

The club want central defenders and are looking at the free transfer market, including Marseille’s Nicolas N’Koulou and Gustavo Cabral from Celta Vigo.

Sport also reports Valencia are interested in Barcelona’s Alen Halilovic, currently on loan at Sporting, and could sign him with the Catalans holding a repurchase option.

Halilovic would be available for €12m and Valencia would make a profit if he was to return to Camp Nou, the Catalan publication adds.
