Simeone ‘wants Costa and one more’

Diego Simeone wants Diego Costa back at Atletico Madrid and a second striker signed in the summer to bolster the team’s attack.

AS reports Chelsea’s Costa is top of Cholo’s wish list for a summer arrival as he looks for the firepower to compete with Barcelona at the top of La Liga, the signing of Jackson Martinez in 2015 having not worked out.

Jackson was taken from Porto for €35m but struggled and was quickly sold on to Guangzhou Evergrande, departing Vicente Calderon in February.

Luciano Vietto was also drafted in last summer, from Villarreal, but it’s noted that he hasn’t reproduced the form he showed at El Madrigal, so Simeone is looking for additions.

Costa is touted as the striker he wants and President Enrique Cerezo has previously suggested Atletico will work to try and bring back the Spain international, who left for Stamford Bridge in 2014.

AS suggests though that despite an up-and-down time in the Premier League, Costa won’t be easy to repatriate and Chelsea could demand most if not all of the €38m they paid two years ago.

Names such as Edinson Cavani, Gonzalo Higuain and Alexandre Lacazette are touted, while a former Atleti youth team player, Alvaro Morata, now at Juventus via Real Madrid, is mentioned as well.
