Navas reveals penalty secrets

Keylor Navas claims God and goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis are behind his success in saving penalties after another during Real Madrid’s 4-0 win against Sevilla.

Navas saved his third penalty out of four for the season in La Liga on Sunday by guessing correctly to push away Kevin Gameiro’s effort as Madrid went on to secure a significant victory, but the goalkeeper showed humility by crediting others for his achievements.

“[On his penalty save], it had a lot to do Luis Llopis,” he said after the game.

“He gives me advice, plays back videos … The work I do outside training helps me a lot.

“I try to improve every day. The day you think you know everything will be the one when you’re wrong.

“I’m improving in certain aspects, training well, having good performances and that fills me with happiness.

“I try to give my best in every game and do things right. It’s something very beautiful and I’ve always dreamt of it.

“Whenever these things happen we must live them to the fullest. We must also know that these things happen with hard work.

“The team are working well and we must continue this winning streak.

“Despite the difficult times, God gave me the strength to continue. Many people have sent me messages of support to not give up.

“[On a possible renewal], I’m just going to continue giving my best in every game.

“[On referees], I don’t usually talk about referees. We’re all human beings and we have to try to do our jobs in the best way possible.

“No referee wants to do wrong. All human beings make mistakes, sometimes they’re harmful and other times they’re beneficial.”
