Jamie Carragher doesn’t believe Arsenal have any chance of recovering their Champions League tie with Barcelona.
The former Liverpool and England defender has spoken to AS in advance of the meeting between the Blaugrana and the Gunners, and feels the 2-0 first leg away win will be too much to come back from for the visitors on Wednesday.
“I don’t think they can recover. It’s almost impossible. That’s my opinion, of course,” he said.
“What’s going to be interesting is if Arsene Wenger thinks the same. And if so, we’ll see which team appears at Camp Nou. They’ll be more motivated [after elimination from the FA Cup on Sunday].
“Wenger’s always had a big disadvantage, or that’s my opinion. He always had to compete with at least three teams who had more money than Arsenal.
“But I get the impression that’s changing, with the signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
“It’s true they keep their best players now. They don’t leave the club anymore and that has resulted in pressure, which is increasingly important.”
