Cheryshev ‘would like’ Valencia stay

Valencia loanee Denis Cheryshev has admitted that he would be “delighted” to stay at the club beyond the summer.

Cheryshev has impressed for Valencia since arriving from Real Madrid at the tail end of January, scoring winning goals against Espanyol and Malaga in La Liga, and he made it clear his priority was extending his spell at Mestalla.

“I’d be delighted [to stay at Valencia],” he told Superdeporte.

“I’ve been very comfortable here from the beginning and everyone’s taken to me phenomenally, the fans, peers, coaches and club.

“However, [staying here] doesn’t depend on me 100 percent.

“For now, I want to enjoy [my time at Valencia], focus on my work and help the team.

“I found a very humble and working squad, then a very difficult situation happened.

“What was missing we’ve recovered subconsciously, and the team are doing well again in both in the League and Europe. Hopefully it stays that way.

“[On Atletico Madrid at the weekend], Atleti are demonstrating the squad they have.

“They’re a very compact unit and concede few goals, so we must take to the pitch with our weapons and not be afraid of playing against them.

“If we approach the game convinced that we can win, it’ll be possible.”
