Saul demanding €5m a year?

Contract talks between Atletico Madrid and Saul Niguez have reportedly broken down over the midfielder’s demands of €5m per year.

According to AS, negotiations are under way between the two parties, but the most recent round, which involved Saul’s agent Jorge Mendes and his father Borja revealed the player was requesting a significant upgrade on his previous terms – which Atleti are unwilling to meet.

Saul’s current deal does not expire for another four years, but his release clause is considered to be low at €24m, leaving Los Colchoneros vulnerable to the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Galatasaray substantiating their reported interest.

Nonetheless, the 21-year-old is understood to be happy at Atleti, who in turn know time is on their side, and aware that he is enjoying the most important year of his career, with a Spain call-up ahead of Euro 2016 possibly around the corner.
