Marcelino hinted Sevilla were Villarreal’s only remaining rivals for fourth place in La Liga after Wednesday’s goalless draw at Celta Vigo.
The Yellow Submarine held the Galicians to a stalemate at Balaidos, thereby keeping the gap between themselves and their opponents to 11 points, with as many matches left to play and leaving Sevilla as their nearest challenges, despite Los Nervionenses being some nine behind.
“You can’t rule anything out, but it’s clear that there are 11 games remaining and Celta would have to do very, very well and we’d need to play considerably worse than we are at the moment for them to make up 11 points,” the Coach said after the game.
“For us, every game from this point onwards is a big step.
“We had the most chances and clearest ones [to win the game].
“In the first few minutes, we could’ve taken the lead, then it was Celta’s turn [to cause us problems], before we created two more clear chances.
“In the final half hour, we didn’t see enough of the ball to cause more problems.”
