Marcelino wants to strike Celta blow

Marcelino believes Villarreal could eliminate a European rival with a victory over Celta Vigo.

The sides are separated by 11 points prior to the game at Balaidos and Marcelino told his pre-match Press conference that extending the gap would leave Celta unable to close it.

“Winning this match would be a major blow, if we win we’re 14 points ahead, which would be almost unbridgeable,” he said, AS reports.

“Only if we go very badly, or have a bad run of injuries or results, something not normal. Whereas if they beat us it’s eight points and goal average [in their favour], putting them in the fight.

“It will be a very difficult game, physically demanding. They have a dynamic attacking game that requires absolute concentration in marking.

“They’re a super dynamic, very strong team. They always have three players in attack so they are very fast and dangerous in transitions.

“We’re ready for them. Normally games with Celta are evenly matched. They won at home but it was a strange game. The first shot was a goal, we had a player sent off and it was decided in the last minute.”
