Cocu: PSV did a great job

Phillip Cocu was content to see his PSV Eindhoven team hold Atletico Madrid in Wednesday’s Champions League first leg.

The tie will now be decided at Vicente Calderon in March and after PSV played the final half-hour with 10 men and still didn’t concede an away goal, ex-Barcelona man Cocu confirmed his satisfaction.

“Yes, I am happy for the 0-0. We did a great job against a great team. In the second half, especially when we were down to 10, we did a great job defensively,” he said, AS reports.

“We fought hard, we were very disciplined and I’m very happy with the result and the work of all my players.

“We play at Atletico’s home and it’s a very important game for them. We know their fans always help the team a lot. But it’s true our opponents didn’t score here.

“0-0 leaves everything open for the return and I think we have a chance to go through. We know it won’t be easy and Atletico are strong at home but we’ll fight for our chances.

“PSV will give everything to get the best result and continue in the Champions League. We know we’ll play an outstanding team and it will be very difficult. But we’ll fight for a good result and move forward.”
