Valencia have been in contact with Napoli’s Raul Abiol as Jesus Garcia Pitarch builds a squad for next season.
Super Deporte notes the Spain international defender has been offered a new contract by his Italian employers but has yet to give a positive response.
Pitarch has cited two areas as in greatest need of attention, the centre of defence and central midfield, and former Valencia man Albiol could be a solution for the former.
Albiol was on Valencia’s books between 2005 and 2009 and is thought to be open to the idea of ending his career at Mestalla.
His Napoli deal ends in the summer of 2017 and if he doesn’t agree to a new contract, the Partenopei could be talked into selling, rather than losing him for free in 12 months. A fee of €6m is mooted, half what Napoli paid Real Madrid for Albiol in 2013.
Pitarch is attempting to put together a squad for next season’s Coach, with Manuel Pellegrini noted to be the favourite to take the bench when he leaves Manchester City and Gary Neville’s tenure ends.
