Vidal: Barca won’t relax

Aleix Vidal insists Barcelona won’t relax despite going six points clear at the top of La Liga after beating Sporting Gijon.

Barca won the rearranged week 16 fixture thanks to a Lionel Messi brace and a goal from Luis Suarez, with Vidal one of five changes from the side that beat Celta Vigo.

“I’ve played for humble teams, where you know the goal is to stay up and you have extra motivation against the big teams,” he noted, AS reports, when asked about the challenge Sporting posed.

“We knew that if we stayed on the same line we have been we could get a good result and we have done. It’s still a difficult win because it’s not easy to beat any opponent.

“We could have scored more goals but it’s not always possible to trounce the opponent.”

It’s now 31 games without defeat for Barca but Vidal is sure the team won’t take a step back even as they pull away from Atletico Madrid.

“We’re having a very good season and we have a significant margin [on second place],” he added.

“Victories mean we’re doing things well but we’re not going to relax. We want to take a prize at the end of the season.”
