Sporting Gijon Coach Abelardo acknowledged his friendship with Barcelona’s Luis Enrique but insists they’ll ‘defend their interests’ when their teams meet.
Barca go to El Molinon on Wednesday in a game rearranged from December and it pits childhood friends Enrique and Abelardo against each other.
“We are friends, but during the match Luis will defend the interests of Barcelona and I will of Sporting,” Abelardo told the Press, AS reports.
“Playing a game like this is a sign we are in the Primera. It’s special. They’re the best team in the world.
“When we were kids we never thought we’d play for Real Madrid, Barca or the national team. I’m very proud of Luis.
“My biggest challenge this season isn’t to beat Barca but to keep Sporting up.”
