Unai Emery hailed Sevilla for “giving an important response” during Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Las Palmas in La Liga.
Second-half goals from Ever Banega and Kevin Gameiro – the latter’s eight goal in nine games – moved the Andalucians five points clear in the race for Europa League qualification next season, and the Coach was delighted with his side’s performance after the interval.
“My team gave an important response. We went from low to high and had a great game in the second half,” he said after the game.
“There was a risk of how to respond after two weeks of great intensity, but the team have gone from strength to strength and could’ve won by a wider margin, had we taken more of our chances.
“It cost us a lot to take the plunge, but my players understood the type of game it was.
“[Las Palmas] left spaces behind for us to exploit on the counterattack, so we had to change our mindset on the pitch and eventually managed to overcome the difficulties.
“We became more orderly and close-knit [in the second half] and took a step forward, so we made more chances.”
