Diego Simeone hailed Atletico Madrid’s fans as the “12th man” during Saturday’s 3-1 win against Eibar in La Liga.
Goals from Jose Maria Gimenez, Saul Niguez and Fernando Torres – the latter’s 100th for his club and his first since September, also against the Basques – fired the depleted Colchoneros to victory, but the Coach reserved special praise for the support his side received from the Vicente Calderon crowd.
“Without a doubt, they’ve always given us many things, but the fans were amazing,” he said after the game.
“I encourage them to always be like this. [The second half] had a different atmosphere to the first half, which wasn’t good for us.
“The fans participated when the team needed them. They never left the game. We went back to playing with 12.”
