Sevilla sporting director Monchi confirms talks with Ever Banega and says the club want him to stay but hints his demands are out of reach.
Banega’s contract expires this summer and he has been linked with Serie A’s Inter, though the Argentine’s representative has spoken of a renewal clause in his current contract that could tie him to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan regardless.
“We’re in a moment of negotiation, pure and hard,” Monchi told reporters, according to Marca, before clarifying the contract situation.
“Ever wants to stay at Sevilla and Sevilla want him to stay. We’re both defending our interests.
“We have all the enthusiasm he will stay and he has the enthusiasm to stay. The contract has a confidentiality clause and I can’t overlook that, but I can say the information that has gone out isn’t exact, it’s wrong.
“Sevilla are certain and are going to fight so that Ever stays for many more years. His involvement is 10 out of 10. But he is a professional, and we have budgets.”
