Bans suspended for Madrid clubs

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have both had their FIFA-imposed transfer bans suspended until further notice.

Real and Atleti were both forbidden from signing players for the next two transfer windows after they were found guilty of breaking rules regarding international minors, but they have since had their suspensions temporarily lifted.

“Real Madrid CF have announced that the FIFA Appeal Committee has decided to provisionally suspend the sanction imposed on the club,” read a statement on Real’s official website.

Atleti’s official Twitter account added: “The FIFA Appeals Committee has provisionally suspended the [transfer] ban while the appeal is resolved by the club.”

Barcelona were similarly banned in April 2014 but were able to delay their embargo until the following January, with court proceedings not concluding until a month before.
