Inaki Williams has made it clear that he was never close to leaving Athletic Bilbao before signing a new contract on Thursday as “this is my club”.
The young forward put pen to paper until 2021 and agreed a €50m release clause as a token of his commitment to Los Leones, and he assured links with the Premier League never transpired.
“Even though things are going so quickly, I’m determined not to slow down. I’m a guy who is never satisfied,” he told Marca.
“I’m staying because this is my club and because of the relationship that I have with the Coach, fans and my teammates.
“Athletic is the place where I’ve always wanted to be.
“I know the youngsters are aware of my progress.
“It’s like when I was in the youth ranks and followed [Iker] Muniain and [Aritz] Aduriz.”
