Marcelino ‘grateful’ for Villarreal effort

Marcelino says he is “grateful” for Villarreal’s efforts in consolidating a Champions League spot this season ahead of Saturday’s trip to Espanyol.

The Yellow Submarine head to Cornella-El Prat six points clear of nearest challengers Celta Vigo in fourth, which would secure them a place in Europe’s elite club competition next term, but the Coach reminded his side that “in this League, any team can make things very difficult for you”.

“In this League, any team can make things very difficult for you,” he said at a Press conference.

“Espanyol are better at home than away, play at a high tempo and intensity and have solvency at the back. It’ll be a long and tough game.

“[On attacking signings], now isn’t the time to be looking for forwards. I’m satisfied with the players I have.

“If someone leaves then fair enough, but the main players are staying.

“The second half [of the season] is more complicated, but I’m happy and grateful about how these players are competing.

“We’re fourth and the team are working really well every day.

“[On Jaume Costa], he’ll start the game .We’ve been careful with him and he’s available for selection, as is everyone else.”
