Atleti reject Spurs’ Jackson bid

Atletico Madrid have reportedly rejected a €30m offer from Tottenham Hotspur for Jackson Martinez.

Marca claims the Premier League club made the approach to Atleti and were rebuffed, Atletico first unwilling to sell for less than the €35m they paid Porto in the summer, and then reconsidering their stance on Jackson in light of their FIFA transfer ban.

Atletico were last week banned from registering new players for two transfer windows starting in the summer, pending the outcome of their appeal, but may prefer to keep hold of players already on their books to counteract the impending restriction.

Marca suggests that if Atletico are successful in fighting the sanction they may cut their losses of Jackson, who has struggled to settle since his summer switch, but as it stands the transfer ban means Atletico’s summer planning is on hold.
