Vidal: Barca won’t be caught

Aleix Vidal believes Barcelona will not be caught in the title race if they are top of La Liga before their trip to Sporting Gijon on February 16.

The Catalans are currently two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid but have a game in hand over Los Colchoneros, which will be played at El Molinon a month from now, and the right-back cannot see his side faltering.

“If we become leaders against Sporting or are [leaders] beforehand, I’m convinced we won’t let [our lead] slip,” he told RAC1.

“[On Barca’s high turnover of youngsters], if I had the opportunity to train with the first team, I wouldn’t have missed it. Perhaps some of them didn’t work hard enough.

“You just have to see [Lionel Messi] in action to realise that he’s the best [player in the world].

“When it’s my turn to play against him [in training], I’m aware that I have few options.

“I’d like to cross paths with Sevilla [in the Copa del Rey]. I have good friends there and it’d be a great tie.

“No team have won the Champions League twice in a row, but I did with Sevilla in the Europa League and now I want to help Barca become that team.”
