Report: Atletico, Madrid facing transfer ban

It’s reported that FIFA will today communicate to Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid a transfer embargo punishment for signing underage players.

AS says the capital clubs face a similar sanction as Barcelona, who were prevented from registering new signings for two transfer windows.

Barca’s ban ended this month and should Madrid and Atletico be punished in the same vein, they would be prohibited from signings in the current window and the following summer market.

Atletico have already signed Matias Kranevitter from River Plate and Augusto Fernandez from Celta Vigo, the former having already been arranged and only completed in January following River’s Club World Cup involvement.

FIFA have been investigating for a year the circumstances surrounding the registrations of under-18s at Santiago Bernabeu and Vicente Calderon, AS note, having urged the Spanish Football Federation [RFEF] to gather documentation on minors at clubs in Spain.

The RFEF were punished at the same time as Barca for their role in registering under-18s from outside Spain and likely would be so again with the Madrid clubs.

A decision is expected to be confirmed on Thursday and AS warns it will not be one favourable to the Madrid clubs.
