‘Ronaldo has to understand…’

Former Real Madrid Coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has called on Cristiano Ronaldo to respect the position of the new man on the bench, Zinedine Zidane.

Player unrest was reportedly part of the reason Madrid decided to sack Rafa Benitez and appoint Zidane, who was in charge of the B team, Castilla, and Luxemburgo has said the players have to change their attitude.

“Zidane was a leader in the locker room as a player, so Cristiano should know that now there is a person with leadership and knowledge there,” the Brazilian, who trained Madrid in 2005, said, AS reports.

“The locker room is the players’ up to a point. From there it belongs to the Coach. Cristiano has to understand that he’s not the Coach, Zidane is.

“[Lionel] Messi is just a player. He’s a star, but he’s just one player, that’s the limit.”
