Emery rues ‘backward step’

Unai Emery rued the “step back” Sevilla took during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Granada in La Liga.

Another goal from teenage prodigy Adalberto Penaranda, preceded by Isaac Success’ strike, was enough to keep all three points at Los Carmenes and continue the visitors’ search for an away win in the League, despite Vitolo pulling one back in first-half stoppages.

“Going down 2-0 was a big handicap,” he said after the game.

“We were a different team in the second half and almost found the equaliser on many occasions, but we didn’t succeed.

“The response was good but not enough.

“The team were growing, but we’ve taken a step back in the rhythm that we had.

“I understand that the fans who came have been hurt by not seeing the team replicate their home form, but we must get up and regain credibility.”
