‘If Benitez thinks there’s a campaign…’

Lucas Vazquez declined to agree with Rafa Benitez that there is an anti-Real Madrid campaign and defended the fans’ right to jeer the players.

Vazquez was speaking after Madrid’s 3-1 win over Real Sociedad in which he scored the third goal, the game played the day after Benitez alleged there was a ‘campaign’ against himself, Florentino Perez and the club as a whole.

“If the Coach thinks there’s a campaign, that has to be respected. We’re dedicated to playing and that’s it,” the forward is quoted as saying by AS.

“The fans can applaud and whistle. We have to continue working on this line and winning games. We have to respect the views of the public.”

Vazquez denied Madrid’s win was an uninspiring affair, instead crediting the visitors with making it difficult.

“La Real play good football, they make things hard. Some games are better or worse but the important thing is we’re three points further ahead.”
