Benfica have confirmed the signing of Barcelona youngster Alex Grimaldo for a €1.5m fee.
AS reports that Barca will receive a percentage of any future fee if the left-back leaves his new club and departs having been captain of the Barca B team.
The Portuguese club’s official website adds that Grimaldo has signed a contract until 2021, and quoted Grimaldo upon arriving at Estadio de Luz.
“They told me they counted on me for the winter market and I am delighted,” Grimaldo said, having been linked with an end-of-season free transfer to the Eagles.
“It’s a great club. Coming here is very special, very special. It’s a great opportunity at one of the world’s best clubs, where I can win trophies.
“I want to make the most of it. I have a great ambition to grow at this club. Benfica is a great showcase. It’s one of the world’s great clubs.”
