Jorge Valdano can’t see Jose Mourinho returning to Real Madrid after the ex-Chelsea manager was touted as Rafa Benitez’s replacement.
Mourinho led Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning the title in 2012 as well as a handful of other trophies in his three years, but left on bad terms, to the point Valdano sees a comeback as a fanciful notion.
“Mourinho return to Madrid? I find that very difficult to believe, difficult to even understand,” he told El Laguero, AS reports.
“The truth is I doubt the central theory that Benitez won’t be on the bench for Madrid in the next League game. I understand Madrid are going through a difficult time, but a change isn’t always the solution.
“I don’t know what will happen with Benitez. He’s the least responsible for all that has happened. There needs to be time to adapt and pass on his ideas.
“Benitez is an experienced Coach who feels Madrid and who understands football in a special way. He needs more time so a free-moving Madrid can adjust to his ideas as Coach.”
