Benitez on the brink, Mou contacted?

Florentino Perez is reportedly convinced Rafa Benitez’s position at Real Madrid has become untenable amid suggestions Jose Mourinho has been contacted.

AS cite reports from El Laguero that claim the President has lost confidence in Benitez as Benitez can no longer count on the support of the players.

The story goes so far as to say that barely a single member of the Madrid dressing room backs the trainer, and Cristiano Ronaldo threatened to leave Santiago Bernabeu after a dressing room row following the 10-2 win over Rayo Vallecano.

Benitez also shares bad blood with Isco and James Rodriguez – not even on speaking terms with the former – and there is no guarantee Benitez will be in charge when La Liga resumes after Christmas and Madrid face Real Sociedad.

Castilla Coach Zinedine Zidane has been touted as Benitez’s successor but doesn’t have the total faith of Perez and the President’s predecessor, Ramon Calderon, has claimed an offer has been made to former boss Mourinho.

Calderon alleges that Madrid asked Mourinho to wait for there to be a vacancy on the bench but Mourinho has been linked to Manchester United since leaving Chelsea earlier in December.

Mourinho was Coach of Los Blancos between 2010 and 2013, winning the title in 2012.
