Davids: Messi an anomaly

Edgar Davids is backing Barcelona forward Lionel Messi to claim the 2015 Ballon d’Or. “The rest will have to wait…”

Messi is up against Cristiano Ronaldo and club colleague Neymar for the prize, the winner to be announced at January’s gala, and Davids expects the Argentine to be successful, but also praised the Portuguese.

“It’s unbelievable what they have accomplished so far and still are accomplishing,” former Barca midfielder Davids told FIFA’s official website.

“I love Ronaldo, because he’s amazing: he works so hard. If Messi is not sharp he’s right there, prepared.

“If he’s fit, most of the time it’s Messi. But he is an anomaly. The rest will have to wait until he falls off a little bit.”

Davids also recalled his former Juventus colleague and ex-Real Madrid playmaker Zinedine Zidane taking the gong in 1998.

“He won the award and a couple of days later he showed up at Juventus’ training camp with a gift for each member of the squad, including the kit manager, or the lady who helped us with administrative matters. I’ll never forget that. That’s Zidane,” Davids noted.
