Suarez: Barca must keep winning

Luis Suarez says it is vital Barcelona “keep winning trophies” after defeating River Plate 3-0 in the Club World Cup final on Sunday.

The No 9 emerged as La Blaugrana’s protagonist in Japan, scoring five goals in only two matches as his brace clinched a historic third success in the tournament, but he believes his side must now strive to build a legacy.

“The most important thing was to win the trophy. It was our enthusiasm with which we prevailed,” he said after the game.

“What’s also important is how everyone did whatever it took to win the tournament.

“We’ve had difficulties [with injuries], but the squad made sacrifices to get fit, not just Messi.

“We knew [River] would be a typical South American team, who’d put us under a lot of pressure.

“Leo opened the scoring and then the second and third goals came.

“It’ difficult to maintain consistency, but the next challenge is to not lower our standards and keep winning trophies. This is the best team in the world.

“I enjoy having the players I have around me every day, in this case Leo and Neymar, and another who is also a delight for me is Andres [Iniesta].

“I’m in the world’s best team, along with the second and third [best].”
