Suarez: For Douglas, Messi and Neymar

Luis Suarez dedicated Barcelona’s Club World Cup semi-final win over Guangzhou Evergrande to his injured teammates, including Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Messi was struck down with renal colic shortly before the match, a condition often associated with kidney stones, and Neymar was only on the bench after a groin problem.

“I hope Messi recovers as quickly as possible. He and everyone else who didn’t play, Neymar and Douglas,” Marca quotes Suarez as saying after he scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 win.

“We knew we had [Messi and Neymar injured]. We had to stay focused.”

Barca now meet South American champions River Plate in Sunday’s final after the Argentines beat Japanese representatives Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

“We knew it was very possibly we’d play against River. For one thing they won the Copa Libertadores,” Suarez said of Barca’s next opponent.

“The other day they made it clear they’re one of the great teams of South America. We’ll try and win the game. It’ll be a spectacular event.”
