‘River will be strong, tough’

Luis Suarez warned Barcelona of what to expect from Club World Cup final opponents River Plate. ‘South American rivals are usually strong and tough.’

Suarez scored all three goals as Barca downed Guangzhou Evergrande in the semi-final, the day after River beat Sanfrecce Hiroshima, the teams now playing off on Sunday.

“We wanted to play the final and we will do. We know South American rivals are usually strong and tough. River Plate are no exception,” he said after being named man of the match, Sport reports.

“Now what we have to do is face the best possible final to win the trophy. That’s what we wanted and it is why we’re here.”

Barca beat Guangzhou without both Neymar and Lionel Messi, the former only fit for the bench after a groin injury and the latter suffering with kidney stones.

“All players are important. It was important that the team concentrated. We know Messi and Neymar are important players and now we have to hope they recover as soon as possible.”
