Danilo claimed "football is just sometimes unpredictable" after Valencia's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Lyon on Wednesday.
The midfielder was unable to help Los Che into the knockout stages of Europe's elite club competition as he was substituted early in the second half, but he insisted his teammates were not lacking in commitment.
"It is a shame we didn’t get the result we wanted," he said after theg game, UEFA's official website reports.
"This is an unpredictable game, you don’t always get what you want.
"We need to move on from and think about next week’s game.
"I don’t think it was about our attitude or our willingness, football is just sometimes unpredictable."
