Barcelona forward Neymar has claimed that he, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez should all be on the Ballon d’Or podium, which is announced this afternoon.
Neymar, alongside his fellow South Americans, fired La Blaugrana to a historic second treble last season, while the trio have accounted for 30 of the side’s 33 goals this season, and the 23-year-old believes they deserve to be the three finalists for the individual award.
“I think I deserve to be [among the finalists] for what I’m doing,” he told Globo TV.
“I would be happy if the trident were among the three.
“For all the history we’ve made, all three of us should be there.
“Still, I’ve never played to be the best in the world or win the Ballon d’Or.
“I’ve always played to better myself and exceed my goals.
“I’m playing and training better [than I did before], and to be the best in the world is a result of both things.
“If you speak of [my inclusion on podium] today then it’s because my work is going well.”
