Marcelino: Villarreal were complacent

Marcelino accused Villarreal of showing complacency in their 2-0 defeat to Getafe on Sunday. “We thought we were better than we actually were.”

Goals from Angel Lafita and Alvaro Vazquez downed the Yellow Submarine, who have now won just one of their last six La Liga games, including no victories in their last three, and the Coach urged his side to get their act together.

“Football has its moments and we had two very clear chances to get ahead on the scoreboard,” he said after the game.

“They took advantage of our error when they were clearly superior.

“It wouldn’t have been given if we’d been intense [in our approach].

“We also committed the sin of lacking intensity in our box for their second goal.

"In football, what matters is the result and to win you have to score.

“They were far more forceful than us and won fairly.

“Whenever you lose it upsets you, but I think we thought we were better than we actually were.

“To win in La Liga, it takes more than what we did today.

“[On Mario Gaspar’s injury], he has a sore left groin.

“We wanted to avoid Mario playing too many minutes, so we took him off.”
