Wenger defends ‘remarkable’ Benitez

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger used his Champions League preview Press conference to defend under-fire Real Madrid Coach Rafa Benitez.

Wenger was speaking to the media in advance of the Gunners’ game against Dinamo Zagreb, but took a moment to speak up for Benitez, whose position has been in doubt following the Clasico drubbing.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to give my support to Rafa Benitez, who is a remarkable Coach,” Wenger said, AS reports.

“I don’t think 12 games is enough to sack a Coach. I hope he has the support of his President for a long time.”

Wenger was asked, hypothetically, if he would be interested if the Santiago Bernabeu bench suddenly became vacant.

“Don’t bet on me,” he replied.
