‘Moyes talked to Izwan Mahbud’

David Moyes was reportedly keen for Real Sociedad to sign Singapore international goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud.

Moyes was last week sacked by the Basque club and replaced by Eusebio Sacristan, and reports have emerged that the Scot was in contact with John Burridge, a former Newcastle goalkeeper who now works with the Singapore national team, about Izwan.

“I was in touch with Moyes but he got the sack, unfortunately,” Singapore-based publication Today quotes Burridge as saying.

“For me, Izwan is top draw and perfect for the Spanish League. I will try to find a way to get him into Europe.

“The only thing he’s got to do is play at a bigger League and a better standard of football. When you put them in a bigger League, it’s the League that teaches them.”

Mundo Deportivo notes that goalkeepers were a bone of contention between Moyes and the Anoeta hierarchy earlier in the season.

It’s said that Moyes was keen on signing back-up to Gero Rulli but was unhappy when the club delivered Oier Olazabal, and his displeasure manifested when he blamed Oier for a defeat against Espanyol.
