James Rodriguez has warned that his goalscoring comeback in Colombia’s 1-1 draw with Chile on Thursday was “for those who still say I’m not fit”.
The Real Madrid midfielder completed 90 minutes for the first time in over two months during his country’s 2018 World Cup qualifier in Santiago, in which he scored the equaliser.
“When I’m not here [with the national team], I suffer a lot,” he said after the game.
“[On how he found the match], this is for those who still say I’m not fit.”
The Spanish Press, meanwhile, have interpreted James’ remarks as a reply to Madrid Coach Rafa Benitez, who claimed the player lacked the necessary match fitnes to start Los Blancos’ 3-2 defeat at Sevilla last week.
