Iniesta: Clasico not decisive

Andres Iniesta doesn’t believe the first meeting between Real Madrid and Barcelona will settle anything as far as the title is concerned.

The first Clasico of the season takes place on November 21, immediately after the international break, and there remains a question as to the involvement of Lionel Messi.

“We need Leo back sooner rather than later and in the best way possible,” Iniesta told Onda Cero, according to AS.

“That’s the reality of the situation. If it’s for the Madrid game, then perfect. If not, then for the next one. His knee comes first and he knows that.

“If he can’t play the game then he won’t, but we’ll see how he’s progressing and hopefully he can play.

“It’s not easy when you don’t have Leo. But whether or not we’ve had positive results, we’d always miss him. It’s even better when he’s with us.”

It was put to Iniesta that Barca are at a disadvantage ahead of the Clasico as they have more players than Madrid away with national teams.

“It doesn’t seem unfair to me. The schedule is what it is and there are games every week, whether with your club or the national team,” he considered.

“We come here delighted to grow. When we return we will prepare for the game at the Bernabeu in the best way possible. After the game is when assessments will be made.

“It’s a big game against Real Madrid but it’s not decisive for La Liga or to see who will be champion. The important thing is to recover and return perfectly.”
