Cheryshev admits Benitez difficulties

Denis Cheryshev has admitted that “communication is poor” with Rafa Benitez but insists he has no regrets about staying at Real Madrid.

The winger has struggled to make an impact on Los Blancos’ first team since returning from Villarreal in the summer, and he has confessed that – despite being on speaking terms with him – his relationship with the Coach is minimal.

“You do everything for the better,” he was quoted as saying by Marca in wake of his call-up to the Russia team for games against Portugal and Croatia.

“This is what happened and I have no regrets. I have no problem with Benitez, but it’s true that communication is poor.

“I don’t agree [that my morale is low as a result]. I’m in good spirits.

“Of course you want to play more, but the situation isn’t easy. You have to be strong and look forward.”

Russia Coach Lenoid Slutskiy added: “Denis is always in our thoughts, firstly because he’s the only player to play for a club at the highest level.

“We must, under no circumstances, close the national team’s doors to those who try their luck in the leading European Leagues.”
