Diego Simeone felt his pre-Astana warnings were justified after Atletico Madrid couldn’t break down their Champions League opponents.
Atleti’s visit to Astan ended in a goalless draw and Simeone told reporters after the match that he was surprised at how the team had to toil.
“For those who haven’t seen Astana play here, they’d be surprised, but us, no,” Simeone replied, AS reports, when asked about the contest.
“I said it would be a tough, tough game, and there is nothing to reproach the team for.
“We failed to score but created four or five clear chances. The team worked well, defensively rather than in creating chances, but in attack we have to create more.
“I said losing to Benfica would complicate the group. We have to win against Galatasaray and see what happens next.”
