Unai Emery has admitted that he did not want Denis Suarez to leave Sevilla as the midfielder prepares to face his former team as a Villarreal player.
The starlet scored six goals in 47 matches for the Andalucians last season as they retained their Europa League crown, although many of his appearances were off the substitutes’ bench, but he decided to cut his two-year loan from Barcelona short in favour of a permanent switch to the Yellow Submarine.
“I didn’t want him to leave, but he saw an opportunity to get more minutes at Villarreal,” the Coach said at a Press conference ahead of Saturday’s encounter at El Madrigal in La Liga.
“I asked him many times not to go, but it was an opportunity for him to grow. I wish him well after the game.”
Emery also insisted he knew “nothing” of Paris Saint-Germain’s reported interest in hiring him for next season.
