Barca & Qatar Airways in gridlock?

Qatar Airways are reportedly playing hardball with Barcelona in negotiations to extend their shirt sponsorship.

According to the Spanish media, the Catalans’ demands of €70m per season were rejected by the airline, who subsequently broke off talks, but the club remain confident that a deal can be struck in the next few days.

Barca President Josep Maria Bartomeu promised in the build-up to July’s elections that his revised agreement with Qatar Airways would be the most lucrative of its kind, but it now seems unlikely that he will dwarf Manchester United’s €71m partnership with Chevrolet.

Barca’s current deal of €35m per season – which has been in force since 2010 – expires next year, but gambling company Botemania will begin displaying their logo on the club’s training apparel from 2016-17.
