Laporta to scrap Barca shirt deal

Joan Laporta has promised to scrap the Qatar Airways branding on Barcelona shirts if he is re-elected President next month.

The Catalans controversially signed their one and only corporate shirt sponsorship deal with the airline in 2013, three years after the 52-year-old was replaced by Sandro Rosell at the helm, and the candidate believes the club’s core values have been neglected in his absence.

“I’m a guarantee of continuity. The current base of the squad is the same as when we left,” he was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo.

“I hope that people are not on the beach that day [of the elections] and vote.

“The club have many other ways to get revenue [other than a shirt sponsor].

“It’s a matter of values, and I want to rescue the values of our club.”
