FIFA has announced that it has opened an investigation into Neymar’s 2013 transfer from Santos to Barcelona.
The Brazilian side believe they were unfairly compensated from the deal, having received only €17.1m of a potential €83.4m, although the club insist talk of them demanding a six-month ban for their former player is wide of the mark.
“We can confirm that we received a claim from the club Santos concerning the player Neymar and the club FC Barcelona,” FIFA told Reuters.
“The matter is currently pending and being investigated.”
Marca reports world football’s governing body wants to clarify how exactly Barca paid Santos for Neymar in order to determine whether any tax fraud took place.
