Santos deny pursuing Neymar ban

Santos have made it clear that they did not specifically request Neymar to be banned for his role in his controversial 2013 transfer to Barcelona.

Globoesporte reported on Thursday that the Brazilian club’s President Modesto Roma had demanded his side’s former forward to be slapped with a six-month suspension for acting in “bad faith” during negotiations with La Blaugrana.

However, a statement on Santos’ official website reads: “Santos did not submit any additional requests to FIFA. Only the arbitration proceedings initially proposed are ongoing.

“Santos just want to protect their rights and obtain compensation for losses suffered [referring to the transfer].

“Santos have no form of control over how FIFA will decide the case.”

Santos’ frustrations stem from only receiving €17.1m from a deal potentially worth €83.4m, subject to further investigations in Spain and Brazil.
