Benitez: Ronaldo still hungry

Real Madrid Coach Rafa Benitez has commended Cristiano Ronaldo on his fourth Golden Boot award as Europe’s top scorer and believes he ‘remains hungry.’

Ronaldo was presented with the gong at a ceremony on Tuesday in Madrid and spoke afterwards of his desire for more trophies, both individually and collectively, a sentiment Benitez echoed.

“When we talk about a player who wins a trophy it is already important, but to win four at this level means there is a professional, there is work, there is consistency, a desire for improvement and, as he said, a group that helps him,” Benitez said, Marca reports.

“These numbers, figures and trophies are extremely difficult to achieve and demonstrates there is a person who has perseverance and the desire to excel that makes the difference.

“Whenever you have a player who scores a lot of goals, the team wins more. He’s been clear and grateful to his teammates. He’s aware of what they mean for him and what he’s achieving.

“Cristiano continues to break records. We’re obviously talking about a very talented player, of a high quality and to beat a player like Raul as top scorer [of Madrid] says it all.

“We’re talking about a player who is not only breaking records, but is still hungry, ambitious and has the ability to continue to improve his numbers.”
