‘2012 final is Spain’s benchmark’

Vicente del Bosque says he hopes Spain can recapture the performance levels they showed in the Euro 2012 final ahead of Monday's trip to Ukraine.

La Roja wrapped up qualification for Euro 2016 as Group C winners with a 4-0 victory over Luxembourg on Saturday, but the Coach claims only part of the job is done as he evoked memories of his team’s resounding win against Italy in Kiev three years ago.

“I've already decided the XI [for Ukraine] and there will be changes from Logrono. I believe it's our best in the circumstances,” he said at a Press conference.

“[Paco Alcacer] will start against Ukraine. He's in good form and we must take advantage of this.

“The final in Kiev in 2012 was the best match of my career as a Coach. I hope we can return to that level.

“We've arrived in Kiev with qualification sealed, but that doesn't mean we're not motivated for [Monday].

“Ukraine are a strong team, have good wingers and are joined together by a unique philosophy.

“[On no Real Madrid players in the squad], when we call players up, we don't look at what team they play for. We only select the best players available.

“Nolito opens up the pitch a lot and gives us depth. We value his dribbling for opening closed defences.”
