Silva & Morata out of Ukraine

Spain have confirmed that David Silva and Alvaro Morata will both miss Monday’s final Euro 2016 qualifier against Ukraine through injury.

Manchester City midfielder Silva pulled up with an ankle problem inside the opening 10 minutes of La Roja’s 4-0 victory over Luxembourg on Friday, while Juventus striker Morata left the game on a stretcher shortly after, having taken a blow to his calf.

A statement on the Spanish Football Federation’s official website reads: “The cause [of Silva’s injury] is a badly-sprained medial collateral ligament in his right ankle.

“The medical services of the RFEF have already contacted their Manchester City counterparts by sending the relevant reports and results of the medical tests performed.

“Alvaro Morata will not travel to Ukraine after taking a blow to his right leg.

“[The RFEF] has also contacted the medical services of Juventus, although the extent of his injury is pending further tests [on Saturday].”
