‘Messi absence helps Rayo’

Rayo Vallecano midfielder Luis Farina agrees Lionel Messi’s absence will help the team against Barcelona, but stresses other factors have to be considered.

Barca host Rayo in the first round of games after the international break and Messi, out with a knee injury, isn’t going to be fit by then.

“With the players Barca have it’s always going to be difficult but we want to go and win every game we play,” AS reports Farina telling Rayo’s official site.

“Barca have plenty of players despite their injury problems. It’s true Messi makes a big difference and if he’s not there it will help us a little bit.

“We go there after the break and after they lost to Sevilla, and you don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. What we are clear about is that we’ll go there for three points.

“International breaks are welcome to keep working and coming together more because after the break we have a tough game.

“If we can’t score goals and we don’t get many chances, it’s very hard to win games. We have to keep working. There’s a long way to go.

“Of course we’re not very happy [after losing to Real Betis] because we know we could have had something positive.”
